Simit, cheese, and olives

Crispy Turkish bread ring coated in sesame seeds, served with fresh cheese and olives. The simplest and most iconic Turkish breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces Simit (Turkish sesame bread ring)
  • 150 g Turkish white cheese (beyaz peynir) or feta
  • 80 g Black olives
  • 1 piece Tomato
  • 1 piece Cucumber
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 20 g Butter
  • 4 sprigs Fresh mint

Method

  1. Lightly warm the simits in the oven or toaster to revive their crunch.
  2. Cut the fresh cheese into thick slices and arrange it on a plate.
  3. Add the black olives next to the cheese.
  4. Slice the tomato and cucumber and arrange them on the plate.
  5. Present the honey and butter in small ramekins.
  6. Garnish with a few sprigs of fresh mint.
  7. Serve the warm simit with the plate of garnishes and a Turkish black tea.
