Spice-marinated firm tofu, grilled and served with a creamy cilantro, avocado, and lime sauce.
Ingredients
- 30 ml Extra-virgin olive oil
- 30 ml Soy sauce
- 2 tsp Salt (preferably Diamond Crystal)
- 2 tsp Ground cumin
- 2 tsp Sugar
- 2 tsp Paprika
- to taste Ground black pepper
- 2 blocs de 400 g Firm tofu
- 1 bunch Fresh cilantro
- 6 pieces Scallions
- 0.5 pieces Avocado
- 1 piece Serrano pepper
- 1 piece Garlic clove
- 60 ml Lime juice
- 60 ml Mayonnaise
- 1/2 tsp Ground cumin (for the sauce)
- 60 ml Water
- as needed Vegetable oil (for the grill)
Method
- Prepare the marinade in a 33x23 cm dish by mixing the olive oil, soy sauce, salt, cumin, sugar, paprika, and pepper.
- Cut each block of tofu into 4 to 6 slices. Arrange them in the dish and turn them to coat well with the marinade. Cover with plastic wrap and let marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 12 hours in the refrigerator).
- Meanwhile, prepare the creamy cilantro sauce by blending all of its ingredients in a blender. Chill.
- Preheat a grill to medium-high heat and generously oil the grates with vegetable oil.
- Remove the tofu from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Grill the slices until nicely browned grill marks appear, about 5 minutes.
- Carefully flip the tofu with a flat metal spatula and grill the other side until also marked, about 5 minutes.
- Transfer the grilled tofu to a serving platter. Serve with the cilantro sauce on the side.
