Traditional ramune float

A Japanese dessert drink made with very cold ramune soda and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, served immediately in a tall glass.

Ingredients

  • 200 ml original Japanese ramune soda
  • 70 g vanilla ice cream

Method

  1. Place the ramune soda, the ice cream, and the glass in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes so that all the elements are very cold, without letting the soda freeze.
  2. Remove the seal from the ramune bottle. Detach the plunger provided in the cap, place it on the glass marble, then press firmly until it falls into the neck.
  3. Hold the plunger in place for a few moments to control the effervescence, then wait for the foam to subside before completely removing the cap.
  4. Slightly tilt the glass and gently pour in the ramune to keep the bubbles while avoiding an overflow.
  5. Form a tight scoop of vanilla ice cream with an ice cream scoop run under hot water then dried.
  6. Delicately place the ice cream on the surface of the soda. Proceed slowly, as the contact between the ice cream and the ramune immediately causes an abundant foam.
  7. Serve without delay with a long spoon and a straw, like in Japanese cafés.
