A great Spanish summer classic: young red wine lengthened with a very cold lemon soda, served over plenty of ice. Light, refreshing, and very simple, perfect for an aperitif or with tapas.
Ingredients
- 50 cl young Spanish red wine, such as Tempranillo
- 50 cl very cold sparkling lemon soda
- 400 g ice cubes
- 1 piece organic lemon
- 1 piece organic orange
Method
- Place the red wine and the lemon soda in the refrigerator in advance, until they are noticeably cold to the touch.
- Rinse the citrus fruits, then slice them into thin, even rounds; save the prettiest ones for serving.
- Fill a large pitcher with ice cubes, enough so that the sides quickly become cool and slightly misted.
- Pour the red wine over the ice, then stir gently to chill it without bruising it.
- Add the very cold lemon soda, pouring it slowly down the side of the pitcher to preserve the bubbles.
- Slide the lemon and orange rounds into the pitcher, then mix very gently until the drink is uniform and shiny.
- Taste immediately: the result should be fruity, sparkling, fresh, and lighter than a glass of plain wine.
- Serve immediately in ice-filled glasses, with a slice of citrus in each glass.
