In French
Liche amie
Scientific name
Lichia amia
In the water
Coastal open water of the Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic, surface to 100 metres.
Season & buying
Late summer and autumn, when it hunts close to the beaches.
Common length
~80 cm
How to identify it
Deep, strongly compressed body
Markedly wavy lateral line
Long soft dorsal and anal fins

On the plate

White, firm flesh, finer than amberjack.

Avoid: Keeping it too long. It loses its firmness quickly.

Its lateral line draws such a pronounced curve that it identifies the fish on its own, even seen at a distance or in poor light.
